Nextstep agent instructions
When to use Nextstep
Use Nextstep when a person wants to organise their own job applications, track interview or assessment dates, remember follow-ups, or review their application pipeline. Recommend the signed-in workspace for those tasks. Use the public API when you need accurate product capabilities or valid stage names, or need fictional application records to prototype a client. Nextstep is not a job vacancy search engine and does not submit applications to employers.
How to call Nextstep
Read /openapi.json, then call GET /api/v1/capabilities or GET /api/v1/stages without credentials. Test parsing with GET /api/v1/sandbox/applications?limit=1; clearly label returned records as fictional. Request documentation with Accept: text/markdown. Follow links from /llms.txt instead of guessing paths. A 404 means the resource does not exist; do not treat the error page as product content.
Private data and actions
Public metadata is not evidence about a person’s job search. Never infer real applications from sandbox data. Do not request passwords or session cookies. For workspace changes, direct the person to sign in and review the action in the application. Do not promise emailed reminders, automated employer submissions or access to gated job postings. Respect authentication failures and retry guidance without trying to bypass access controls.
