# Nextstep Job Tracker — Official CLI source

The official Nextstep source CLI prints public job tracker metadata and fictional sandbox records as JSON. It is a small, dependency-free Node.js command-line client for agents and developers. It calls the version 1 API, uses no credentials and cannot read or modify a private workspace. Node.js 22 or newer is required.

## Run from source

```sh
git clone https://github.com/priyam122/nextstep.git
cd nextstep
node cli/bin/nextstep.mjs capabilities
node cli/bin/nextstep.mjs stages
node cli/bin/nextstep.mjs sandbox
node cli/bin/nextstep.mjs spec
```

Set NEXTSTEP_BASE_URL to an HTTP or HTTPS origin to test a local deployment. Successful commands print JSON to standard output; errors go to standard error with a nonzero exit code. Redirects are rejected so credentials or requests cannot silently move to an unexpected origin. The client reports typed API errors and Retry-After guidance instead of automatically retrying requests.

## Registry release status

The MIT-licensed package is prepared as @nextstep-fans/cli. Registry release is awaiting confirmation of npm scope ownership and publication credentials. There is currently no verified npm installation command. Use the repository source until a published release is linked here. Packaging checks run locally before release; registry publication is a separate operator action.
