# Nextstep Job Tracker — Developer portal

Build tools that understand Nextstep, a private job application tracker. The public REST API provides product capabilities, supported application stages and a read-only sandbox of fictional applications. These endpoints require no account or API key and never return a member’s job search data. All responses are JSON, and the OpenAPI document describes every supported operation in this integration surface.

## Quickstart

```sh
curl -fsS https://nextstep.fans/api/v1/capabilities
curl -fsS https://nextstep.fans/api/v1/stages
curl -fsS 'https://nextstep.fans/api/v1/sandbox/applications?limit=2'
```

## Authentication and API keys

No API key is needed for public endpoints. Private workspace requests use the existing signed-in browser session and enforce account ownership. Nextstep does not currently issue developer API keys or offer a delegated OAuth API. Do not ask users to share passwords or copy session cookies into an agent. Use the signed-in web app for private workspace actions until a dedicated integration authentication flow is available.

## Sandbox and CLI

GET /api/v1/sandbox/applications returns fixed fictional records, supports a limit from 1 to 3 and cannot write to a workspace. It is suitable for testing a client without credentials. A source CLI is included in the Nextstep repository under cli: run node cli/bin/nextstep.mjs capabilities, stages, sandbox or spec. Registry publication is pending; there is no npm install command to use yet.
